Discover Tanzania – A Zanzibari Perspective
Friday, September 20, 2019 | 4:55 PM
Visit Shaler North Hills Library for some Zanzibar chai and learn about the rich history of the islands of Zanzibar on Tuesday evening, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
The modern republic of Tanzania is a result of the unification of the former colonies of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964. Zanzibar, also known as the Spice Islands, maintained a robust slave trade even after slavery was abolished in 1897.
The free presentation will be given by Christine Tapu, an English as a Second Language teacher who recently returned from a Fulbright–Hayes Group Project Abroad in Tanzania.
