Millvale Riverfront Park was alive with creative energy July 20 as the Society of Sculptors poured into the region for an exhibition and demonstrations to celebrate the third annual FireTree Sculpture Festival.

FireTree was an apt name as art enthusiasts had to endure sweltering conditions with temperatures in the 90s and high humidity. But the community supported this event with a strong turnout, which culminated with the lighting of a 24-foot-tall metal FireTree sculpture created by Duncan MacDiarmid, Society of Sculptors president.

In addition to the artwork, there were activities for children, food and beverages for the all-day event that was held from noon to 10 p.m.
