Shaler Community Yard Sale

The Shaler Township Community Yard Sale is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 7 in Kiwanis Park. Register for a space to sell items or stop by to purchase some treasures. The cost to set up a table is $15 per parking space, and you must bring your own table. Deadline for registration is Sept. 4. Food trucks will be on-site.

Movie at Stoneridge Park

Shaler Township will be host movie night in Stoneridge Park featuring “E.T.” starting at dusk Sept. 14.

Bring a blanket or chair.

Sponsored by Wesbanco, this is a free family event.

“E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” is a 1982 American science fiction film. Directed by Steven Spielberg, it tells the story of Elliott, a boy who befriends an extraterrestrial, dubbed E.T., who is stranded on Earth. Elliott and his siblings try to help E.T. return to his home planet while keeping him hidden from the government.

Class of ’69 preps reunion

The Shaler Area High School Class of 1969 is looking for class members for a 50-year reunion planned for Sept. 21 at the Comfort Inn RIDC Harmarville.

Garden club to meet Sept. 11

Greybrooke Garden Club, whose members reside in various communities of Pittsburgh’s North Hills, will meet Sept. 11 in the fellowship hall of Parkwood Presbyterian Church, 4289 Mt. Royal Blvd., Allison Park.

The business meeting begins at 9:30 a.m.

Refreshments follow the meeting and will precede the day’s program, “Planting and Care of Trees for Western Pennsylvania,” presented by Bartlett Tree experts. Guests are welcome to come at 10:45. If you plan to attend, call Karen Lampman at 412-445-9335.

• On Sept. 14, the club will hold a mum sale, featuring nursery-grown hardy mums, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McCandless Crossing, in the grassy area near Bonefish Grill.

5K run/walk set for Sept. 21

A Memorial 5K run/walk in the name of Bradly Maslanka will be at 9 a.m. Sept. 21 in North Park.

The race will begin at S Ridge Drive at Harmar Grove Pie Traynor Field. There will be five age groups running for medals.

Proceeds will go toward the Treatment Advocacy Center, a nonprofit organization that fights for change in mental health policies, outpatient treatment and civil commitment laws.

Bradly loved cross country, track, camping, dirt biking, walking in the woods and just being outdoors. This race is a way of honoring Bradly while helping to make a difference in the mental health arena.

North Pittsburgh College Fair

More than 140 colleges and universities will participate in the North Pittsburgh College Fair on Monday, Oct. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at La Roche University’s Kerr Fitness & Sports Center in the North Hills.

One of the largest college fairs in Western Pennsylvania, the North Pittsburgh College Fair will host universities, colleges and technical schools from across the country. High school students and their parents will have the chance to meet with representatives from each school to learn more about their campuses and academic programs.

Presented by La Roche and the Northern Area Counselor’s Consortium, the fair is organized by the following local school districts: Avonworth, Fox Chapel Area, Hampton, North Allegheny, Northgate, North Hills, Pine-Richland and Shaler Area.
