Shaler Area students accepted into PMEA district ensembles

The following Shaler Area High School students were accepted into Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 ensembles.

PMEA District 1 Band

Six students were accepted into the PMEA District 1 Senior High Band. The students will rehearse for two days and showcase their hard work, as well as represent Shaler Area, at West Mifflin High School on Feb. 13-15, 2020 during the PMEA District 1 Band Festival.

The students selected are: Seniors Alex Almonte, Euphonium, and Michael LaBella, Bassoon; juniors Adam Braughler, French Horn, Luke Franks, Trumpet, and Zachary Spondike, Tenor Sax; and sophomore Erika Kenst, Clarinet.

PMEA District 1 Orchestra

Six students from Shaler Area’s band and orchestra were selected to participate in the PMEA Senior High District 1 Orchestra Festival. They will rehearse for two days and showcase their work at Chartiers Valley High School on Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 during the PMEA District 1 Orchestra Festival.

The students selected are: Senior Michael LaBella, Bassoon (SAHS Band); juniors Adam Braughler, French Horn (SAHS Band), Jenna Facer, Flute (SAHS Band), Zachary Spondike, Clarinet (SAHS Band), and Jonathan Zang, Cello (SAHS Orchestra); and sophomore Felicity Agostino, Violin (SAHS Orchestra).

PMEA District 1 Chorus

Five students were selected to participate in the PMEA District 1 Chorus. The students auditioned with more than 400 students from surrounding schools for a spot in the PMEA District 1 Chorus. The students will be featured at the PMEA District 1 Senior High Chorus festival at South Fayette High School Jan. 15-17, 2020. The concert will take place on Jan. 17, at 7 p.m.

The students selected are: Seniors Alex Almonte and Jennifer Hinerman; juniors Zoe Babbit and Sonny DeMasi; and sophomore Jenna Masucci.

All of these students were selected based on their level of musicianship, involvement in PMEA, as well as their involvement in the arts. Students are chosen from 54 districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette County.
