The Shaler Area School voted to retain its current president during a Dec. 4 reorganization meeting.
April Kwiatkowski nominated to reelect James Tunstall Jr. for his second presidential term. James Fisher, meanwhile, nominated Kwiatkowski as vice president. The board unanimously supported both school directors representing Region 1 to fill the yearlong appointments.
Tunstall joined the board in December 2015. After serving for a year, he accepted the vice president role, which he held until 2017.
Prior to serving three consecutive terms as board president, Kwiatkowski was vice president in 2014 and 2015. She joined the board in 2013. She replaces Tim Gapsky as vice president.
“I also wanted to just take a moment to welcome Dr. Kwiatkowski back into a leadership role on the board. I want to thank Mr. Gapsky for his service as the vice president over the past year. He is extremely committed about the students and school district of Shaler Area. I also want to congratulate Mr. Tunstall on another year of leadership as the board president,” Superintendent Sean Aiken said.
Fisher will continue as the board’s liaison to the A.W. Beattie Career Center and Tunstall will resume as the alternate.
The board invites the public to attend a finance committee meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 8 at the district administration building, 1800 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. Discussion items will include the “2018-19 fiscal year end actuals and preparation for the 2020-21 school year budget,” according to the Dec. 4 meeting agenda.
