North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) is inviting the community to gather for a morning walk or run at Millvale Riverfront Park followed by afternoon libations at Wigle Barrelhouse and Whiskey Garden.
The family-friendly Fun Run & Walk is scheduled for 8:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 28.
The 3-mile course will start at the park, 70 River Front Drive, travel through town, and return to the park, Jeff Geissler, communications coordinator, said.
“It’s a community event in Millvale, one of the communities that we serve. But we want to teach people how they can become charity runners for the (2020 Dick’s Sporting Goods) Pittsburgh Marathon,” he said.
The marathon is slated for May 3, 2020. People may register to run on behalf of charities, such as NHCO. After registering and choosing to fundraise for a charity, the Run for a Reason Charity Program, presented by Bank of America, will grant runners web pages to collect their donations.
Furthermore, NHCO officials will provide information about volunteering with NHCO at its 2020 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon beverage station.
They also will register participants in the 2020 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community.
The Fun Run & Walk is free, but NHCO will accept cash donations. Registration is requested, but not required. Call 412-307-0069, ext. 3324 or [email protected]
NHCO will provide light refreshments.
Wigle’s NHCO benefit will follow from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Whiskey Garden and Barrelhouse, 1055 Spring Garden Ave., North Side.
“In the morning do something healthy and, in the afternoon treat yourself to a cocktail and 9.9% of the proceeds are going to go towards the (nonprofit’s) outreach,” Geissler said.
Meagan Paul, Wigle Whiskey and Threadbare Cider House & Meadery, front of house operations director, said that the company hosts events for nonprofits at all of its locations.
“Wigle Whiskey is hell bent on supporting our local community. We partner with nonprofits and charitable organizations by helping with hosting fundraising events in our spaces. The space and bar staff are provided at little-to-no cost and 9.9% of all drink and bottle sales during the event are donated back to the organization,” according to an official company statement.
