A portion of East Elfinwild Road in Shaler will close mid-March for nine months.
The road will shut down on March 16 while crews replace Pine Creek Bridge, the Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced Tuesday.
Cost is $2.1 million.
Work will be done by Pugliano Construction Co., Inc., of Pittsburgh.
Elfinwild Road will be shut down near the intersection of William Flinn Highway (Route 8) and is expected to remain closed through December.
Pine Creek Bridge is described as structurally deficient, officials said.
Construction will include bridge abutments, a retaining wall, concrete barrier, drainage, guide rails, pavement, sidewalks, curbs and ramps.
Motorists who travel in the area should allow extra time for detours, which include Middle Road to Burchfield and then back to Route 8.
During construction, the left-turn lane used by southbound motorists along Route 8 to turn onto East Elfinwild Road will be closed. Traffic will be directed to Eighth Avenue, Edison Street, Duquesne Street and then back to Route 8.
Motorists who exit the business district and need to go southbound will be detoured to Route 8, Duncan Avenue and then Mount Royal Boulevard.
